National Network of State Elder Justice Coalitions (NNSEJC)

Georgia Statewide Elder Justice Initiative (GSEJI)

The Georgia Statewide Elder Justice Initiative (GSEJI) is operated by the Forensic Special Initiatives Unit (FSIU) of the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Aging Services, in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. It includes over 70 professionals from diverse fields, disciplines, jurisdictions, and settings, including criminal justice; social, protective and regulatory services; healthcare: sexual assault and domestic violence programs; medical examiners and coroners; financial institutions; elder law attorneys; and many more. Their common goals are protecting victims, preventing future victimization, and prosecuting offenders through person-centered, evidenced-based, trauma-informed approaches.

GEJI members work together to identify patterns of treatment and services for at-risk adults and gaps in the current system. The coalition addresses all types of abuse, including, but not limited to, financial, physical, and institutional abuse. The group analyzes public policy and makes recommendations for systemic improvements that can be accomplished through legislation, training, technical assistance, data collection, research, and collaboration.
